Accelerating progress in Reading at KS2

Who should attend:
KS2 teachers, English Subject Leaders


This 2 - hour online training session will examine the range of reading skills which contribute to pupil progress throughout KS2. Strategies to support pupils still struggling with decoding and fluency will be explored, together will guidance on revisiting key aspects of phonics with pupils reading below age - related expectations. the links between vocabulary, fluency and reading comprehension will be unpicked and a range of evidence - based teaching approaches proven to accelerate progress in reading will be shared.
Course objectives:
  • To understand how different aspects of reading (decoding, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension) contribute to progress.
  • To understand how reading assessments can be used diagnostically to identify specific gaps for pupils working below age - related expectations.
  • To explore key teaching strategies proven to enhance progress across all aspects of reading.
