Helping the Child on the Autism Spectrum to Succeed in School: Using Transactional Supports in the Classroom
 

Who should attend:
Any staff new to working with children on the autism spectrum in early years and primary school settings.

Outline/Objectives:

This one day course looks in detail at a range of practical strategies which can be put into place to provide effective support for children on the autism spectrum. In particular:
  • To consider the strengths of children on the autism spectrum and how these can be utilised in creating a supportive learning environment
  • To explore a number of environmental adaptions and how these can be put into place
  • To build on naturally occurring routines to create learning opportunities
  • To support transitions through the use of visual systems
  • To consider our own practice in order to provide meaningful and useful interpersonal support to our pupils on the autism spectrum
  • Participants will have an opportunity to plan transactional supports which they can use in the classroom with a pupil on the autism spectrum.
